On a sectional door, hinges join the sections and let the door bend as it rolls from vertical to overhead. Clopay describes them that way: hinges connect the panels and play a big role in how the door bends as it opens and closes. (source: Clopay)
The hinges on one door aren't identical. Clopay notes that each hinge is numbered to match its location on the door, and the number stamped on the old hinge identifies the right replacement. (source: Clopay) So we match the stamped number rather than grabbing any hinge that looks alike.
Amarr says springs, rollers and hinges can squeak with normal use, which doesn't necessarily mean a problem, and suggests a spray lubricant made for garage doors before calling for service. (source: Amarr) Replacement is needed when a hinge is cracked, its leaf is bent, or its screw holes have torn out of the section. A torn-out hinge on a thin steel door can mean the section needs reinforcing or replacing (panel replacement).
The bottom hinges and brackets hold the lift cable, which is under spring tension. Those are not a homeowner job; see cable and drum repair.
Decorative strap hinges are a different thing: trim pieces on the outside of the door. Garaga sells handles, hinges and knockers reminiscent of wrought iron that are easy to install yourself, (source: Garaga) and Clopay offers decorative handles, hinges and knockers in several finishes. (source: Clopay) They don't carry any load.
