Stoughton has a broader mix than most of its neighbors. Of its 11,742 housing units, 63% are detached single-family homes, 8% are attached townhouse-style units, 10% sit in two- to four-unit buildings and 19% in buildings of five or more (ACS B25024). The median home was built in 1969, and 54% of units date from 1940 to 1979 (ACS B25034). About three in four occupied homes are owner-occupied.
That mix changes what a garage door job looks like. In a condo or townhouse complex the association often sets the door style and color, so we check the rules before quoting a replacement. Single-car doors in attached rows also tend to share a wall with the next unit, which makes a quiet belt-drive opener or a wall-mount unit a considerate choice. In the mid-century single-family homes, the usual calls are a broken torsion spring, a door that has come off its track, or an opener that is old enough to lack modern safety reversal tuning.
Stoughton runs permits online. The town's online permitting page says applications "are typically processed within 2 business days", and plumbing, gas and electrical permits are issued automatically after payment, while other permit types are reviewed by the departments involved. Whether a door swap needs a building permit depends on scope: the state chart lists door replacement as "maybe" and installation of a new door as "yes" (mass.gov). The Massachusetts Historical Commission inventory shows no local historic district in Stoughton, so there is usually no design review for an ordinary door change.
Once a month, place a roll of paper towels in the door's path and close the door. It should reverse when it touches the roll. If it doesn't, stop using the opener until it's adjusted.
Our crew is licensed and insured, and services all brands. Doors come from Clopay, Garaga, Wayne Dalton or Amarr; for openers we work on LiftMaster, Chamberlain, Genie and other brands.
