Accessories fall into two groups, and the group decides what has to match. Opener accessories, like remotes, keypads and safety sensors, must match the opener model; Clopay's parts guide says to check the opener's manual or label before ordering. (source: Clopay) Door parts, like seals, windows, hinges and struts, must match the door: its maker, model and size.
Find what you need to match
- For opener accessories, find the opener brand and age. LiftMaster, for example, asks you to check the learn button color at the back of the opener and covers openers from 1993 on. (source: LiftMaster)
- For door parts, find the door's label or model number; our brands page shows where each maker puts it.
- Some symptoms aren't the part you think. Amarr notes that a remote that won't work may have a dead battery, misaligned photo eyes or a broken spring. (source: Amarr)
Opener accessories
- Remotes and keypads: learn buttons, rolling codes, universal units, and why a remote quits.
- Safety sensors: the monthly reverse test and why a door keeps going back up.
Door parts
- Bottom seals: what to measure, and why salt makes seals matter more here.
- Windows and inserts: model-specific glass and trim, and struts behind windows on wind-rated doors.
- Hinges: why each hinge is numbered for its spot on the door.
- Struts: reinforcement, wind-load positions and top-section cracks.
Springs, cables and rollers are service jobs rather than parts to order; see broken spring repair, garage door rollers and weatherstripping.
