Millbury has a mix of old mill-town and newer housing. Twenty-six percent of units were built before 1940, 39% from 1940 to 1979 and 18% in 2000 or later; the median unit dates to 1965 (ACS B25034). Detached houses are 67% of units, attached units 8% and two- to four-unit buildings 17% (ACS B25024). Seventy-five percent of occupied homes are owner-occupied.
The Blackstone Canal Historic District, which runs through Millbury, is on the National Register (MHC inventory). The state inventory lists no local historic district in Millbury, so Register listing alone doesn't put a garage door under design review.
About one unit in six is in a two- to four-family building. Older houses often share a detached garage with narrow doors on extension springs. We replace the springs, add safety cables and fit new doors to the opening. See extension spring repair.
Nearly a fifth of units date from 2000 or later. Those have attached two-car garages, insulated doors and torsion springs. Broken springs and opener sensor faults are the usual calls.
Millbury's building inspections are conducted Monday through Friday from 1 to 4 pm, must be requested through the office, and the inspector is available by appointment only. The town also notes that an inspection cannot be done on the day it is requested (Millbury Building Inspections). If a door job needs a permit, build that lead time into your plans. The state chart lists door replacement as a maybe for a permit and new installation as a yes (mass.gov).
Keep the tracks clear of ice and road salt, and don't run the opener if the door is frozen to the floor. A worn bottom seal can be replaced with weatherstripping.
We install Clopay, Garaga, Wayne Dalton and Amarr doors and repair openers of all brands.
