Uxbridge has an old housing stock for a fast-growing town. Thirty-one percent of units were built before 1940, 23% from 1940 to 1979 and 19% in 2000 or later; the median unit dates to 1976 (ACS B25034). Detached houses are 62% of units, 1-unit attached 12% and two- to four-unit buildings 18% (ACS B25024). Eighty percent of occupied homes are owner-occupied.
The MHC inventory lists the Uxbridge Common and Center Historic District (2004) as a local historic district. Doors visible from a public way are among the exterior features its commission can review under state law (MGL c.40C §5 and §6). Check before replacing a street-facing garage door near the Common. The National Register list MHC inventory also includes Rogerson's Village, Wheelockville and the Uxbridge Common District.
Nearly a third of homes predate 1940, and 18% of units are in two- to four-family buildings. Many of those have small detached garages with narrow, low openings and old extension springs. We add safety cables or convert to torsion where we can, and size new doors to the opening.
Uxbridge has added townhouses and single-family subdivisions in recent decades. Associations often set the door style, so we match the existing doors or replace one panel.
As of 6/10/2026, Uxbridge moved to a new permitting system for applications and inspection requests. The department lists a "Paper Application administration fee $250" (Uxbridge Building Department). That $250 is a Town of Uxbridge government fee, not a MassGarage price, as of October 28, 2026. On the state's chart, door replacement is a "maybe" for a permit and new installation a "yes" (mass.gov).
We install doors from Clopay, Garaga, Wayne Dalton and Amarr and repair openers of any brand.
