Westport is mostly detached, owner-occupied homes. Eighty-five percent of units are detached and 10% in two- to four-unit buildings (ACS B25024); 83% of occupied homes are owner-occupied. About 7% of units are seasonal (ACS B25004). The median unit dates to 1972; 16% predate 1940, 43% are from 1940 to 1979 and 24% from 2000 or later (ACS B25034).
The MHC inventory lists the Westport Point Historic District, a local district since 2006. Under MGL c.40C §5 and §6, the commission may review exterior features visible from a public way, which include doors. If your house is at Westport Point, ask the historic commission before changing a street-facing garage door. Westport Point is also on the National Register (MHC inventory).
Westport is on the coastal-communities list (Massachusetts CZM). Homes near salt water see rust on springs, cables and bottom brackets. We use galvanized hardware and recommend a yearly tune-up.
Many Westport properties have barns and outbuildings with wide openings. We can fit a carriage house door or a plain steel door sized to the opening.
Nearly a quarter of units are from 2000 or later. Those houses usually have attached two-car garages with torsion springs and openers with photo-eye sensors. Springs and sensor faults are typical calls.
Westport's Building Department takes gas, plumbing and electrical permit applications through the PermitEyes portal and posts its building permit fee schedule online (Westport Building Department). Check the current fee with the building department; any permit fee is a town fee, not our price. The state chart lists door replacement as a maybe for a building permit (mass.gov).
We install Clopay, Garaga, Wayne Dalton and Amarr doors and service openers of every brand.
