Easton combines a 1979 median build year with several historic designations. Sixteen percent of its housing predates 1940 and 35% was built from 1940 to 1979 (ACS B25034). Detached single-family homes are 64% of units, and attached one-unit homes are 14% (ACS B25024). Eighty-two percent of occupied homes are owner-occupied.
The MHC inventory lists three local historic districts in Easton: the Ames Shovel Works (2010), the Ames Historic District (2013) and the Hayward Pool Historic District (2021). On the National Register it lists, among others, the North Easton Historic District (1972), the H. H. Richardson Historic District of North Easton (1987) and the Furnace Village Historic District (1983). The state historic-district law names doors among the exterior features a commission reviews when they are visible from a public street (MGL c.40C §5 and §6). If your house is inside one of the local districts, expect to show the commission the new door's design before it goes in. Wood-look or carriage-house steel doors with simple window lites tend to suit those streets.
Easton's Building Department page carries a scam alert. Fraudulent emails that impersonate town officials target people with pending permit applications and push them to pay made-up permit fees by wire transfer, payment apps or cryptocurrency. Warning signs the town lists include pressure to pay immediately and email addresses that are not on an official government domain. If a garage door job needs a permit, pay the town only through its own channels. On whether you need one: the state lists door replacement as a "maybe" and door installation as a "yes" (mass.gov).
With 14% of units attached, many Easton owners share a building and a style standard. We check the association guidelines and match the existing door when only one panel or a single door needs replacing.
New doors come from Clopay, Garaga, Wayne Dalton and Amarr; we repair all opener brands, including LiftMaster, Chamberlain and Genie.
