Plymouth County

Plymouth's housing is young for Massachusetts, and the town is on the coast. According to the American Community Survey (2020-2024), 29% of its housing units were built in 2000 or later and the median year built is 1982; only 16% predate 1940 (ACS B25034). Detached single-family homes are 66% of units, 1-unit attached homes another 9%, and 79% of homes are owner-occupied (ACS B25024, B25003).
Plymouth is on the Massachusetts CZM list of coastal communities (CZM).
A house built in the last 25 years usually has an attached two- or three-car garage with a builder-grade steel door and a chain- or belt-drive opener installed at the same time. Those doors are light, so a car bumper or a wind gust dents them, and the standard springs that came with them have a limited cycle rating that a busy household can use up long before the door wears out. Typical Plymouth calls on that stock are spring replacement, a dented or cracked section where panel replacement is possible, and opener upgrades. We service and install all opener brands, including LiftMaster, Chamberlain and Genie; a smart opener is a simple swap on most of these doors.
Where a house belongs to a condo or townhouse association, the association usually sets the door model and color, so we check the spec before quoting.
Close to the shore, salt air rusts springs and bottom brackets and pits thin steel. A galvanized door with a good finish, stainless or coated hardware and nylon rollers hold up better. We can source doors from Clopay, Garaga, Wayne Dalton and Amarr, including wind-rated options for exposed lots.
The Massachusetts Historical Commission inventory lists the Plymouth Historic District as a local historic district designated in 2024 (MHC inventory). Inside a local district, MGL c.40C counts doors open to view from a public street or body of water as exterior architectural features, and changes need a commission certificate first (c.40C §5 and §6). If your house is in the older part of town, check with the commission before ordering a new door.
