Avon is a small town, with 1,724 housing units in the American Community Survey (2020-2024). Its housing is mostly older: 37% predates 1940 and the median year built is 1954 (ACS B25034). Thirty-one percent of units are in two- to four-unit buildings, and 61% are detached homes; 76% of occupied homes are owner-occupied (ACS B25024).
With almost a third of homes in small multi-family buildings, a lot of Avon garages serve more than one household. A detached garage behind a two-family, or two side-by-side bays, means two doors that age at different rates and often two different openers. We can match a replacement panel or door to the one next to it, and set up an opener for each bay with its own remotes. The prewar share also brings low-headroom garages, where a wall-mount opener helps.
Avon's Building Department page says the Building Commissioner enforces the State Building Code, 780 CMR, together with the plumbing, gas and electrical inspectors. The Commissioner is also the enforcement agent for the Avon Zoning By-Laws. So the same office handles both a new garage door and where a new garage can go. The state's chart lists door replacement as a "maybe" for a building permit and new door installation as a "yes" (mass.gov).
The Massachusetts Historical Commission inventory lists no local historic district in Avon.
Avon's older garages tend to be small, with a single bay and a short driveway. On those, we pay attention to the door's weight and the opener's force setting, because a light door and a strong opener can push hard against a car or a person before reversing. We test the auto-reverse on every visit and adjust it to the door you have.
Licensed and insured, and we service all brands. Doors from Clopay, Garaga, Wayne Dalton and Amarr; openers including LiftMaster, Chamberlain and Genie.
