When a door at a warehouse, shop, garage bay or loading area stops working, the whole building feels it. The MassGarage team repairs commercial garage doors across all of Massachusetts. This page explains what to write down before you call, how to take a damaged door out of service, and what happens between the first call and the repair. For an overview of everything we do for businesses, see commercial garage doors.
The person who was standing at the door when it failed usually holds the most useful facts. Before that shift ends, ask them to note:
A photo of the whole door and one of each bottom corner are often worth more than a long description. Send nothing that requires climbing a ladder near the door.
A door that has stopped working can still hold a great deal of stored energy. Clopay warns that garage door springs and cables are under significant tension and can be extremely dangerous to work with, and recommends that only trained professionals adjust or replace them. On a heavy commercial door the risk is larger, not smaller.
Commercial repairs go more smoothly when the access details are sorted before anyone arrives. Expect us to ask who will meet the technician and where to check in, whether the work area is inside a secured zone, and when the door can be closed to traffic for the repair. Tell us about anything parked in front of or under the door, such as racking, dock equipment or stored material, and whether a lift or ladder can reach the top of the opening. If several doors on the property have problems, list them all on the first call so they can be looked at in one trip.
The visit begins with an inspection of the door, its hardware and the operator, because the part that failed is not always the cause. A snapped cable can point to a worn drum; a bent section can point to a track problem. After that, you get an estimate that says what we found and what we would do, so whoever approves the spend at your company has it in writing. Our pages on cable and drum repair, panel replacement and general garage door repair explain the same parts in more detail.
Repair is usually the first option to check. Replacing a section, cable or set of rollers often puts a door back in use. Replacement becomes the better conversation when several sections are damaged at once, when parts for an older door are hard to match, or when the door no longer suits how the opening is used today. We lay out both options side by side so you can weigh cost against downtime and the life left in the door.
MassGarage is family owned, with 15 years of experience in the trade. Licensed and insured. Proof of insurance, license and 1099 available on request. That paperwork is often what a property manager or vendor file needs before work can start. Not an authorized dealer for any brand. Licensed and insured, and we service and install all brands. Most repairs come with at least a 1-year warranty, often longer.
Call (781) 602-0737 with the door size, what happened and when the opening can be closed, or use the contact page. The MassGarage team will tell you what to expect for your site.
