Worcester County

Milford, in Worcester County, has 11,627 housing units. Twenty-three percent predate 1940 and the median year built is 1971 (ACS B25034). Detached homes are 56% of units, two- to four-unit buildings 22% and five-plus buildings 14% (ACS B25024). Sixty-five percent of occupied homes are owner-occupied.
Milford's Building page opens with "Please Check Your Zoning District Regulations First". It then lists what an application needs: it must be made out by the owner or contractor, it must describe the work, and proof of liability and workers' compensation insurance is required. For garage doors, the state chart lists replacement as a "maybe" for a permit and new door installation as a "yes" (mass.gov). When a permit is needed, we supply the insurance documents the town asks for. Licensed and insured. Proof of insurance, license and 1099 available on request.
The two- to four-unit buildings and prewar houses near the center often have detached garages with narrow openings. Typical work there is replacing a worn wood door with a steel door sized to the opening, adding low-headroom track, or replacing broken extension springs. In the newer single-family areas, the work is more like any suburb's: springs, rollers and smart opener upgrades.
The MHC inventory lists the Prospect Heights Historic District (1990) on the National Register. It shows no local historic district in Milford.
Older Milford garages were often framed to odd widths, so a stock 8- or 9-foot door doesn't always fit. We measure the rough opening, the headroom above it and the side room on both sides before quoting. If the framing is out of square, we fix that first, because a door hung in a crooked opening binds, wears its rollers fast and strains the opener.
We install doors from Clopay, Garaga, Wayne Dalton and Amarr and repair LiftMaster, Chamberlain, Genie and other openers.
