Littleton's housing is mostly detached and fairly young. Detached houses are 84% of units and buildings of five or more 9% (ACS B25024). Twenty-eight percent of units were built in 2000 or later, 36% from 1940 to 1979 and 16% before 1940, with a median year of 1977 (ACS B25034). About 1% of units are seasonal (ACS B25004), and 84% of occupied homes are owner-occupied.
Littleton's Building Department takes applications through Open Gov. As of 8/6/2026, "Homeowners applying for Residential Building Permits may now use our new Homeowner Permit (HO) application," and the same system shows property history and past permits (Littleton Building Department). Under the state chart, a replacement garage door may need a permit and a new one does (mass.gov). When we do the work, we handle the permit if one is needed.
More than a quarter of Littleton homes are from 2000 or later. Most have attached two-car garages with steel doors, torsion springs and openers with photo-eye sensors. Typical calls are a broken spring, a cable off its drum, or rollers that have worn flat. See cable drum repair and garage door rollers.
About one home in six predates 1940. Older garages may have wood doors that have absorbed water over the years and grown heavier, which strains springs and openers. A new insulated garage door is lighter to balance and keeps cold air out of an attached garage.
Once a year, lubricate the hinges and rollers, check the cables for fraying, and test the auto-reverse with a piece of wood under the door.
A wireless keypad outside lets family members get in without a remote. Rolling-code remotes and keypads are harder to copy than the fixed-code units on older openers.
We install Clopay, Garaga, Wayne Dalton and Amarr doors and service LiftMaster, Chamberlain, Genie and other openers.
