Dighton's housing is split between old and new. Twenty-seven percent of units were built before 1940, 27% from 1940 to 1979 and 30% in 2000 or later; the median unit dates to 1975 (ACS B25034). Detached houses are 86% of units, two- to four-unit buildings 7% (ACS B25024), and 90% of occupied homes are owner-occupied.
The Dighton Wharves Historic District and the Coram Shipyard Historic District are on the National Register (MHC inventory). Dighton has no local historic district in the state inventory, so Register status alone does not require design approval for a garage door. Dighton also appears on the state's coastal-communities list (Massachusetts CZM).
More than a quarter of the town's homes predate 1940. Many have barns or detached garages with wide, low openings and older swing or slide-up doors. We measure the opening and header and can build to a custom size, or fit a carriage house door.
Almost a third of units date from 2000 or later. Those homes typically have attached two- or three-car garages, insulated steel doors and torsion springs. Spring breaks and opener sensor faults are the usual calls. See torsion spring repair.
Dighton's Building and Inspections office uses PermitLink, an online system where homeowners and contractors can create a profile, apply or pay for a permit, attach documents, get email alerts and check permit or inspection status (Dighton Building and Inspections). Per state guidance, a door replacement is a possible permit item and a new installation needs one (mass.gov).
Note the door width, whether the springs are above the door or along the tracks, and the opener brand. That helps us bring the right parts.
Barn and outbuilding openings are often non-standard sizes. We quote those after measuring on site.
We install doors from Clopay, Garaga, Wayne Dalton and Amarr.
