Garage Door Repair in Barnstable County (Cape Cod)

Every one of Barnstable County's 15 towns, from Bourne and Falmouth out to Provincetown, is on the Massachusetts CZM list of coastal communities (CZM). On the Cape, salt air reaches nearly every garage door.

The housing is mostly detached and owner-occupied. In the American Community Survey (2020-2024), 82% of units are detached single-family houses and 81% of occupied homes are owner-occupied (ACS B25024, B25003). The median year built is 1977; 45% of units date from 1940 to 1979 and only 11% from before 1940 (ACS B25034).

Historic districts on the Cape

The Massachusetts Historical Commission inventory lists 31 local historic district areas in 12 Cape towns and 58 National Register district areas. The largest is the Old King's Highway Regional Historic District (1973), which the inventory lists in more than one town, Barnstable and Dennis among them; others include Hyannis Main Street Waterfront (1996), the Chatham Historic Business District (1985) and Quissett in Falmouth (1993) (MHC inventory). The Old King's Highway district runs under its own special act, Chapter 470 of the Acts of 1973, which covers doors in view from a public street, way or place (Acts of 1973 c.470). In a chapter 40C local district, MGL c.40C includes doors open to view from a public way or body of water among the exterior architectural features that a commission must approve before any change (c.40C §5 and §6).

Springs

Salt is the number-one enemy of Cape garage hardware. Rusted torsion springs snap, and bare-steel cables fray. For spring repair here we recommend coated or galvanized springs and stainless or galvanized cables, and we check rollers and hinges for corrosion on the same visit.

Openers
