Brimfield is a rural town of owner-occupied houses. Detached houses are 90% of units and mobile homes 7% (ACS B25024); 88% of occupied homes are owner-occupied. Twenty-seven percent of units were built in 2000 or later, 29% from 1940 to 1979 and 8% before 1940; the median year is 1988 (ACS B25034). About 6% of units are seasonal (ACS B25004).
The state inventory lists the Brimfield Center Historic District (2006) on the National Register (MHC inventory). It lists no local historic district, so Register listing alone doesn't require approval to change a garage door.
Houses from the 1990s and 2000s often have attached two- or three-car garages with a room above. Their original builder-grade doors and openers are now twenty to thirty years old. Panels dent, the bottom seal cracks and the opener's gears wear. An insulated door and a belt-drive opener make the garage warmer and quieter.
Many properties have a detached garage or barn. An unheated building can take a simpler non-insulated door, and an old opening that is out of square may need new jambs first.
On wooded roads, storms can knock out power. Know where the manual release cord is and pull it only with the door fully closed. A battery-backup opener lets the door run without power.
If the door rises crooked or a cable hangs loose, stop using it. See cable and drum repair.
The state's home improvement chart says a garage door replacement may need a permit and a new installation does (mass.gov). We confirm with Brimfield before work.
About 7% of Brimfield's units are mobile homes. Their carports and sheds sometimes have small roll-up or swing doors rather than sectional doors. We can replace a sheet-metal roll-up door or fit a small sectional door if the shed's framing allows it. A short visit tells us which.
We install Clopay, Garaga, Wayne Dalton and Amarr doors and service LiftMaster, Chamberlain, Genie and other openers.
