County
Bristol County mixes two old mill cities with farm and shore towns. The American Community Survey (2020-2024) shows 32% of its housing built in 1939 or earlier and 36% from 1940 to 1979, with a median year built of 1964 (ACS B25034). The multi-family share is high for a county outside Boston: 25% of units are in two- to four-unit buildings, and the share is 45% in Fall River and 47% in New Bedford, while 53% are detached houses and 62% of homes are owner-occupied (ACS B25024).
The Massachusetts CZM coastal list includes 13 of Bristol's 20 municipalities: Acushnet, Berkley, Dartmouth, Dighton, Fairhaven, Fall River, Freetown, New Bedford, Rehoboth, Seekonk, Somerset, Swansea and Westport (CZM). Some of those touch the open ocean and Buzzards Bay; others, like Rehoboth and Seekonk, are on the river and bay system. Salt exposure varies a lot within the list.
The Massachusetts Historical Commission inventory lists 11 local historic district areas in seven municipalities: examples are Russells Mills Village in Dartmouth (1998), the Ames district in Easton (2013), Westport Point (2006) and the Norton Historic District (1975). There are also 113 National Register district areas (MHC inventory). A visible door in a local district needs a commission certificate under MGL c.40C before it changes (c.40C §5 and §6).
In the cities, shared garages behind two- and three-families run many cycles a day; in the suburbs, the springs on 1970s and 1980s doors are simply old. Either way, a broken spring means the door shouldn't be forced. We replace springs sized to the door and check cables and brackets for rust, especially in the shore towns.
We service and install all opener types and brands, including LiftMaster, Chamberlain and Genie. For shared garages, a keypad or smart opener beats a drawer full of remotes.
The state's home-improvement chart lists door replacement as "maybe" needing a building permit and door installation as "yes" (mass.gov). We can source and install doors from Clopay, Garaga, Wayne Dalton and Amarr, from galvanized steel for the shore to carriage styles for historic villages.
Door stuck open, cable snapped or door off track: call (781) 602-0737, or read emergency service first.
