Middleborough covers a lot of ground, and its housing spans three centuries. The median unit was built in 1979; 22% of units predate 1940, 29% are from 1940 to 1979 and 26% were built in 2000 or later (ACS B25034). Detached houses make up 71% of units, with 10% in two- to four-unit buildings, 10% in buildings of five or more and about 5% mobile homes (ACS B25024). Seventy-seven percent of occupied homes are owner-occupied.
The MHC inventory lists National Register districts at Middleborough Center (2000), South Middleborough (2009) and Muttock (2000). These are not local historic districts, so a door replacement on a house there is a building-code question only. Older farmhouses often have detached barns or carriage sheds with wide, low openings that standard doors do not fit; we measure every opening before quoting, and carriage house doors are made in custom sizes.
A quarter of the town's homes are from this century, mostly colonials and capes with two-car attached garages. Original springs on these doors are reaching the end of their cycle life, and the first round of openers is aging too. We replace torsion springs as a pair and can add a smart opener with battery backup.
On long rural roads, a door stuck shut can mean a car trapped for the day. When you call, tell us whether you hear the opener run and whether a spring above the door looks split; that lets us load the right parts.
The state chart lists garage door replacement as a "maybe" for a permit and new door installation as a "yes" (mass.gov).
About one unit in twenty is a mobile home. Those homes rarely have an attached sectional door, but a detached garage or shed on the lot can take a light single door, and we can quote one.
