Hampden County

Granville is a rural Hampden County town. Detached houses are 95% of units (ACS B25024), and 93% of occupied homes are owner-occupied. Thirty-five percent of units were built before 1940, 30% from 1940 to 1979 and 11% in 2000 or later; the median year is 1966 (ACS B25034). About 2% of units are seasonal (ACS B25004).
The state inventory lists three National Register districts for the town, all from 1991: Granville Center, Granville Village and West Granville (MHC inventory). There's no local historic district, so Register status doesn't require approval for a garage door.
About a third of the housing is pre-1940. Detached garages and barns are common. Where the old door is a wood swing or slider, the replacement choice depends on the framing:
Houses from 1940 on usually have attached garages. Openers past fifteen or twenty years old may lack modern safety features. A wall-mount opener frees ceiling space in a garage used for storage.
Snow and meltwater collect at the threshold. Keep the slab clear and replace a torn seal.
A broken spring makes a loud bang. Leave the door closed and call.
The state's home improvement chart says a garage door replacement may need a permit and a new installation does (mass.gov). We confirm with the town.
If a remote works only up close, replace the battery first, then check the antenna wire hanging from the opener. Older openers with fixed-code remotes can be swapped for rolling-code models that are harder to copy.
We install Clopay, Garaga, Wayne Dalton and Amarr doors and service LiftMaster, Chamberlain, Genie and other openers.
