North Attleborough mixes an older town center with newer neighborhoods. Twenty-one percent of units predate 1940 and the median year built is 1974 (ACS B25034). Detached homes are 56% of units; two- to four-unit buildings and five-plus buildings each hold 16%, and 9% are attached single-family homes (ACS B25024). Seventy-two percent of occupied homes are owner-occupied.
The MHC inventory lists ten National Register districts in North Attleborough. They include the North Attleborough Town Center Historic District (1985), the Old Town Historic District (1991), the High, Church and Gould Streets Historic District (1999), the Commonwealth Avenue Historic District (2003) and the Attleborough Falls Historic District (2004). The layer shows no local historic district, so no c.40C commission review appears in the inventory. On those older streets, though, a door that fits the house still matters. We often fit carriage-house or simple raised-panel doors to detached garages behind older multi-family houses.
The town's Building Department page uses Viewpoint Cloud for online permitting. It says walk-in hardcopy applications "will be charged a $25 Administration Fee per application". That is a Town of North Attleborough government fee, not a MassGarage price (as of October 28, 2026, per the town page). The page also says inspectors enforce 780 CMR, 521 CMR, MGL c.40A and the town zoning by-laws. The state chart lists door replacement as a "maybe" for a permit and new door installation as a "yes" (mass.gov).
In a two- to four-unit building, a garage may serve several tenants. Separate opener remotes or keypad codes, a reliable opener with working safety sensors, and quick off-track repair when a car clips a door are the usual needs.
Wooden doors on older garages need paint or stain every few years to keep water out of the bottom section.
