Seekonk is mostly single-family housing on the Rhode Island line. Detached houses are 86% of units, two- to four-unit buildings 7% and buildings of five or more 5% (ACS B25024). Eighty-seven percent of occupied homes are owner-occupied. The median unit dates to 1967; 21% of units predate 1940, 44% are from 1940 to 1979 and 18% from 2000 or later (ACS B25034).
Seekonk is on the state's coastal-communities list (Massachusetts CZM). Most homes are far from open salt water, but those near rivers and wetlands see more humidity, and rust shows first on springs and the bottom brackets. A yearly lubrication and a look at the cables help.
The 1950s to 1970s homes that make up much of Seekonk often have a one- or two-car attached garage, or a garage under the house on a raised ranch. Common calls are a broken torsion spring, a door that reverses before it closes, and an opener that hums without moving. A reversing door is often the safety sensors out of line; a humming opener usually has a stripped gear.
About a fifth of homes predate 1940, and some have detached barns or sheds with wide openings. Those are good candidates for a carriage house door sized to the opening.
Seekonk's building department at 100 Peck Street is open Monday, Tuesday and Thursday from 6:30 am to 3:30 pm and Wednesday to 4:30 pm, and it is closed Fridays. The building inspector's office hours are 6:30 to 8:30 am or by appointment (Seekonk Building). The town uses OpenGov for "all of the town's licensing, permitting and plans" (Seekonk Forms & Permits). The state chart lists door replacement as a "maybe" for a permit and new installation as a "yes" (mass.gov).
We install doors from Clopay, Garaga, Wayne Dalton and Amarr and repair openers of all brands.
