Amesbury's housing has a large prewar share. Thirty-six percent of units were built before 1940, 31% from 1940 to 1979 and 12% in 2000 or later, and the median unit dates to 1969 (ACS B25034). Detached houses are 48% of units, buildings of five or more 27%, two- to four-unit buildings 15% and attached houses 11% (ACS B25024). Sixty-nine percent of occupied homes are owner-occupied, and about 1% of units are seasonal (ACS B25004). Amesbury is on the state's coastal-communities list (Massachusetts CZM).
The Amesbury and Salisbury Mills Village Historic District is on the National Register (1985) (MHC inventory). The state inventory lists no local historic district in Amesbury, so Register listing by itself doesn't add review of a garage door.
Amesbury Inspectional Services says "The City of Amesbury implemented OpenGov for all residential and commercial permit applications and renewals, including sign permits and fence permits," and posts the building permits it issues each month (Amesbury Inspectional Services). Any permit fee is the city's, not our price. Under the state chart, a replacement garage door may need a permit and a new installation does (mass.gov).
Prewar homes often have small detached garages with low headers and narrow openings. We use low-headroom track when the ceiling is tight, and a wall-mount opener when there's no room for a rail.
More than a quarter of units are in larger buildings and one in ten is an attached house. Associations usually choose the door style. Inside the garage, owners often maintain the opener, rollers and springs.
A rattling door often needs new rollers and tightened hinges. Nylon rollers with sealed bearings run quieter. See garage door rollers.
A broken spring makes the door too heavy to lift. Leave it closed, pull the opener's release only if the door is fully down, and call for broken spring repair.
We install Clopay, Garaga, Wayne Dalton and Amarr doors and service LiftMaster, Chamberlain, Genie and other openers.
