About 39% of Tisbury's housing units are seasonal (ACS B25004), and Tisbury is on the state coastal-communities list (Massachusetts CZM). Detached houses are 84% of units and buildings of five or more 7% (ACS B25024); 76% of occupied homes are owner-occupied. Twenty-eight percent of units predate 1940, 22% are from 1940 to 1979 and 16% from 2000 or later, with a median year of 1979 (ACS B25034).
The state inventory lists the William Street Historic District (1975) as a local historic district; it is also on the National Register, as are the West Chop Light Station (1987) and the West Chop Club Historic District (2007) (MHC inventory). Under chapter 40C, the commission reviews exterior changes that can be seen from a public way (MGL c.40C §5 and §6). If your house is on the district list, talk to the commission first.
Tisbury Building & Zoning says to "Apply for every permit online through the OpenGov permitting portal," and permit fees are taken only through the portal or at the office (Tisbury Building & Zoning). The state's home improvement chart lists a garage door replacement as a possible permit item and a new installation as a yes (mass.gov). We file through the portal when a permit is needed.
With so many seasonal homes, a garage may not be opened from fall to spring. Springs can break and rollers dry out unnoticed. A smart opener shows the door's status from anywhere, and a spring check before arrival helps.
Homes near the harbor or shore see faster rust on spring coils, cables and fasteners. We use galvanized springs and coated hardware there.
A carriage house door in steel or composite keeps a traditional look with less upkeep than wood.
We install Clopay, Garaga, Wayne Dalton and Amarr doors and service LiftMaster, Chamberlain, Genie and other openers.
