Plainville is a small town of 4,470 housing units, with a lot of recent building. Twenty-one percent of units date from 2000 or later and the median year built is 1978; 13% predate 1940 (ACS B25034). Detached homes are 54% of units, and the rest is a mix: 13% in two- to four-unit buildings, 18% in five-plus buildings and 7% attached (ACS B25024). Seventy percent of occupied homes are owner-occupied.
Plainville's Building Department page states its mission as enforcing the State Building, Electrical, Plumbing and Gas codes and the Plainville zoning by-laws. It says permits can now be submitted online, and it links a Home Improvement Contractor registration lookup, a quick way for an owner to check who they're hiring. Whether a garage door job needs a building permit depends on scope: the state's chart lists door replacement as a "maybe" and new door installation as a "yes" (mass.gov). We're licensed and insured, and proof of insurance, license and 1099 is available on request.
The townhouse and condominium share means many Plainville doors belong to an association, which usually sets style and color. There, a panel replacement or opener repair is often the fix, not a new door. Single-family homes from the 1970s and later typically have attached two-car garages, where the usual calls are a broken spring, an opener whose sensors keep tripping, or weatherstripping that no longer seals.
The Massachusetts Historical Commission inventory lists no local historic district in Plainville.
In a condo or townhouse complex, the association's rules usually spell out who pays for a garage door and who picks the replacement. Before we quote, it helps to have the association's approved door model or a photo of a neighboring door. That way the new door or panel matches and won't need to be redone.
New doors: Clopay, Garaga, Wayne Dalton, Amarr. Openers: every type and brand, including LiftMaster, Chamberlain and Genie.
