Blandford is a hill town where nearly every home is an owner-occupied detached house. Ninety-six percent of units are single-family detached (ACS B25024), and 97% of occupied homes are owner-occupied. Thirty-five percent of units were built before 1940, 33% from 1940 to 1979 and 13% in 2000 or later; the median year is 1966 (ACS B25034). About 6% of units are seasonal (ACS B25004).
With detached houses spread across six decades and more, garages vary a lot. A pre-war house may use a barn bay; a 1960s house may have an attached one-car; a newer home may have a two-car with a room above. We bring parts for the common setups and measure before ordering anything custom.
For a barn bay used as a garage, the first question is whether the header can carry a sectional door's track and opener. If not, we can repair the slider instead: new rollers, a straight top track and a floor guide so it doesn't swing.
If your opener is more than 20 years old, it may use a fixed-code remote. Rolling-code openers are more secure. For rural homes, a battery backup keeps the door working in outages. See garage door openers.
About one unit in sixteen is seasonal. Unplug the opener and lock the door before a long absence.
Snow from the roof can bury the bottom of the door. Clear it before opening, and never run the opener against a frozen door.
The state's home improvement chart says a garage door replacement may need a permit and a new installation does (mass.gov). We confirm with the town.
Rodents slip in under a worn or torn bottom seal. Replace the seal along with the side stops if light shows around the door when it's closed. See weatherstripping.
We install Clopay, Garaga, Wayne Dalton and Amarr doors and service LiftMaster, Chamberlain, Genie and other openers.
