East Bridgewater is mostly detached homes: 81% of units are single-family detached and 83% of occupied homes are owner-occupied (ACS B25024). The median year built is 1977; 20% of units predate 1940 and 17% date from 2000 or later (ACS B25034).
The age spread means three kinds of garages. Older farmhouses often have a barn or detached garage that suits a carriage-house door on simple track. Postwar ranches have attached one- or two-car garages, often with extension springs that need safety cables or a torsion conversion. Newer colonials have wide attached garages with heavier doors and modern openers. For a long driveway or a detached garage, a smart opener that shows whether the door is open saves a walk outside.
East Bridgewater's Building Department page announces that "Our new permitting system is now live!" It also links a Request for Demolition of Historic Property form. If you plan to take down an old garage or barn, ask the department first. For garage doors, the state chart lists replacement as a "maybe" for a building permit and new door installation as a "yes" (mass.gov).
The MHC inventory lists the East Bridgewater Common Historic District (1999) and Sachem Rock Farm (2006) on the National Register. It shows no local historic district.
Two quick checks save time on most East Bridgewater visits. First, look at whether the door is level when it's closed; a gap on one side usually points to a cable or spring problem rather than the opener. Second, note whether the opener's light blinks when the door reverses, which often means the safety sensors are out of line. Tell us what you see and we'll bring the right parts.
We install Clopay, Garaga, Wayne Dalton and Amarr doors and service LiftMaster, Chamberlain, Genie and other openers.
