Ashland's housing is newer than most of MetroWest. The median unit was built in 1984, a quarter (25%) date from 2000 or later and only 13% predate 1940 (ACS B25034). Detached homes are 56% of units, but 15% are 1-unit attached townhouses, with 13% in two- to four-unit buildings and 16% in buildings of five or more (ACS B25024). Seventy-five percent of occupied homes are owner-occupied.
One Ashland unit in seven is a townhouse, usually with a single-car door built into the front of the unit. Those doors tend to be 8 or 9 feet wide with light springs and a ceiling opener mounted close to a bedroom above. A belt-drive opener is quieter in that layout. Most associations set the door style and color, so we confirm it before ordering a replacement.
Subdivisions from the last forty years have two-car attached garages with steel sectional doors. By now many of the original springs have run past their cycle life, and openers from the 1990s lack the battery backup and Wi-Fi control of current models. We replace torsion springs in matched pairs and can add a smart opener to an existing door.
Ashland takes applications through its Building Permit Portal on OpenGov, linked from the Inspectional Services page, and building inspections run Monday through Thursday (Ashland Inspectional Services). The state chart calls door replacement a "maybe" and new door installation a "yes" for a permit (mass.gov).
The smaller share of pre-war houses near the town center often have detached single garages. Those are candidates for off-track repair or a lighter replacement door.
Townhouse owners should check whether the association or the unit owner pays for door repairs before booking.
We install doors from Clopay, Garaga, Wayne Dalton and Amarr and work on all opener brands, including LiftMaster, Chamberlain and Genie.
