Plymouth County

Plympton is a small town of detached houses. Ninety-five percent of its roughly 1,250 units are single-family detached (ACS B25024), and 93% of occupied homes are owner-occupied. The median unit dates to 1981; 22% predate 1940, 26% are from 1940 to 1979 and 12% from 2000 or later (ACS B25034). About 1% of units are seasonal (ACS B25004).
The state inventory lists Harrub's Corner Historic District (1970) as a local historic district (MHC inventory) and the Plympton Village Historic District on the National Register (2007) (MHC inventory). A local district commission reviews exterior changes visible from a public way (MGL c.40C §5 and §6), so check before you change a garage door that can be seen from the road there.
Plympton's Building Inspector performs field inspections on construction projects, and the department notes that "All requests for inspections must be submitted by 2:00 PM on Thursday for any weekend inspections" (Plympton Building Department). Under the state chart, a replacement garage door may need a permit and a new installation does (mass.gov).
More than a fifth of the housing is prewar, and many properties have barns or detached garages. Openings may be wide, short or out of square. We measure each one and fit the door and track to it. A carriage house door suits an old barn.
Homes from the 1980s on usually have two-car attached garages with torsion springs. If the door is loud, jerky or slow, new rollers and a balance adjustment often fix it. See garage door tune-up.
On a rural lot, battery backup keeps the door working through an outage. A smart opener lets you check the door from your phone.
We install Clopay, Garaga, Wayne Dalton and Amarr doors and service LiftMaster, Chamberlain, Genie and other openers.
