Middlesex County

Everett is a two- and three-family city on the Mystic River. The American Community Survey (2020-2024) counts 53% of Everett's housing units in buildings with two to four units and only 20% as detached single-family homes; 37% of occupied homes are owner-occupied (ACS B25024). The median unit was built in 1938, and 53% date to 1939 or earlier (ACS B25034).
Everett is also one of the Boston Harbor communities on the Massachusetts CZM coastal list (CZM), the only Middlesex County city on it.
A typical Everett lot has a two- or three-family house and, if there is a garage at all, a small detached one at the back. Those garages were built for narrower cars and often have a low header, so the track and spring choice matters: a low-headroom torsion kit or a rear-mount double track gives the door room to open fully. When several tenants or owners share the garage, wear piles up on cables and rollers, and we'd rather replace a frayed cable at a tune-up than after it snaps and leaves the door crooked in the opening.
Being on the CZM coastal list means salt exposure is part of the picture, especially near the river and harbor. Rust starts on springs, hinges and the bottom bracket, which holds the cable under full spring tension. Replacing a rusted bottom bracket is a job for a technician, not a homeowner; the stored energy in a wound spring is what makes it dangerous. For new doors in exposed spots, we can source galvanized steel doors with factory paint from Clopay, Garaga, Wayne Dalton and Amarr.
We install and repair all opener types and brands, LiftMaster, Chamberlain and Genie above all. In a garage with several users, a smart opener or keypad lets each household in without passing remotes around.
The state home-improvement chart lists door replacement as "maybe" requiring a building permit and door installation as "yes" (mass.gov). Everett's building department decides for your address.
