Danvers has a wide range of housing ages. A quarter of units (25%) were built before 1940, 44% from 1940 to 1979 and 17% in 2000 or later; the median unit dates to 1963 (ACS B25034). Detached houses are 58% of units, two- to four-unit buildings 11% and buildings of five or more 24% (ACS B25024). Sixty-nine percent of occupied homes are owner-occupied.
Three local districts appear in the MHC inventory: the Salem Village Historic District, the Holten House and Glen Magna Estate, all designated in 1974. Massachusetts law gives a district commission review of exterior features visible from a public way, including doors (MGL c.40C §5 and §6). Owners in the Salem Village district should ask the historic commission before replacing a garage door that shows from the street. The former State Lunatic Hospital at Danvers is also on the National Register (MHC inventory).
Older Danvers homes often have detached one-car garages with low headers. We fit low-headroom track where the space is tight, and a carriage house door suits many of the period houses.
Most houses date from the postwar decades. Common problems are broken torsion springs, worn rollers and openers more than 20 years old. A modern wall-mount opener frees ceiling space in a short garage.
Danvers is on the Massachusetts coastal-communities list (Massachusetts CZM). Houses close to tidal water should get hardware checked for rust each year.
The state's home improvement chart lists replacing a garage door as a maybe for a building permit and installing one new as a yes (mass.gov).
With about a quarter of units in larger buildings, some Danvers owners share garages or carports under association rules. Ask the association who handles door repairs before scheduling one.
We install Clopay, Garaga, Wayne Dalton and Amarr doors and repair openers of all brands.
