Salisbury's housing is varied. Detached houses are 52% of units, two- to four-unit buildings 20%, buildings of five or more 14%, attached houses 10% and mobile homes 4% (ACS B25024). Seventy-one percent of occupied homes are owner-occupied. Twenty-nine percent of units were built in 2000 or later, 31% from 1940 to 1979 and 18% before 1940; the median year is 1980 (ACS B25034). About 14% of units are seasonal (ACS B25004), and the town is on the state coastal-communities list (Massachusetts CZM).
Salisbury Inspection Services uses Citizenserve for e-permitting, and says "The Application will not be reviewed until all Documents required in the Permit Instructions are provided" (Salisbury Inspection Services). Under the state's home improvement chart, a replacement garage door may need a permit and a new installation does (mass.gov). We gather the documents before we file.
Salt air and blowing sand are hard on garage doors close to the shore. Sand grinds in rollers and hinges, and salt rusts springs and track bolts. Galvanized springs, nylon rollers and coated hardware hold up better. Rinse the door and tracks with fresh water after storms.
One home in seven is seasonal. A door that sits closed for months may have a dead remote battery or a broken spring when the season starts. A garage door tune-up before summer catches problems early.
A fifth of units are in two- to four-unit buildings and 14% in buildings of five or more. For shared garages, a keypad with separate codes is simpler than passing remotes. In associations, the board usually picks the door model and color.
Homes from the last 25 years usually have insulated steel doors on torsion springs. An insulated door is stiffer in wind. See insulated garage doors.
Wind or a bump can knock a door off its rollers. Don't run the opener; unplug it and call for off-track repair.
We install Clopay, Garaga, Wayne Dalton and Amarr doors and service LiftMaster, Chamberlain, Genie and other openers.
