A remote or keypad has to speak the same radio language as the opener's receiver. That's why the opener, not the door, decides what you can buy. Clopay's parts guide puts it simply: match the remote, keypad or sensor to your opener model, using the opener's manual or label. (source: Clopay)
Chamberlain's wireless keypads are battery operated, so they mount outside the door with no wiring run. (source: Chamberlain) We place them where they're easy to reach but out of the swing of the door and away from where a car will clip them.
Before buying a new one, rule out the simple causes. Amarr's support page lists the most common: a dead remote battery, safety photo eyes out of alignment, or a broken spring. (source: Amarr) Two more worth knowing:
If the door won't move with the wall button either, the problem is the opener or the door, not the remote. See safety sensors and broken spring repair.
